Featuring a 18.1MP full 24x36mm CMOS, the Canon EOS-1D C Camera is a cinematic camera in a DSLR body with capacity to record stills, 4K and Full HD video which can be recorded onto two on-board CF cards; uncompressed Full HD can be recorded to outboard recorders. Its full 24 x 36mm sensor can capture 5184x3456 large individual 6.96µm pixels and a much improved S/N rato results in higher quality images from the beginning. The sensitivity of the sensor is two stops more than previous models thanks to an increased photoelectric comversion rate of its photodiode structure. This allows for a wide ISO range of 100-51200, which is expandable to 50-102400 and even 204800) with very low noise. In addition, a 2-line 16 channel simultaneous signal readout enables speeds of up to 12 fps (RAW + JPEG) and even 14 fps in Super High Speed Mode.

When saving full HD videos to the camera's onboard CF cards, there are two compression schemes chosen: The first "IPB" (Interframe, Predicted Frame, and Bidirectional Predicted Frame) compression scheme, which allows for good quality image and a marked reduction in overall file size, suits recording of long, continuous clips that would unlikely require tight editing and cuts during post-production; The second "ALL-I" (All Intraframe) compression scheme, which saves in file sizes about three times that of IPB, offers the processing of each individual frame as a complete image, thus rendering it suitable for many precise cuts to the original file. Image aside, the EOS-1D C can record audio internally via the built-in microphone, or externally via external microphones and a standard stereo mic jack. An automatic or manual-controlled 64-step, user-adjusted sound level range is available and silent adjustment of audio (or exposure) settings can be enabled via its touch-senstive Quick Control Dial. Additionally, the EOS-1D C features a built-in headphone jack that simplifies the task of monitoring audio during recording and playback.

The EOS-1D C employs a Dual DIGIC 5+ Image Processors that achieves impressive noise reduction and processing speed while a 61-Point Heigh Density Reticular AF features an Offset Array Sensory for greater accuracy. Its multi-zone wide-area AF is sensitive in extremely low-light situations and consists of 5 central dual cross-type points, 21 central cross type points, and 20 outer cross-type points for improved tracking. When using the Automatic Point Selection, assistance from the integrated 100,000-pixel RGB Metering Sensor increases the tracking performance for usually difficult to track subjects.  EOS iTR (Intelligent Tracking and Recognitiion) AF and EOS iSA (Intelligent Subject Analysis) System provides for subject recognitiion based on face and colour detection during AF tracking and for proper exposure. A dedicated AF menu tab enables quick access to AF control.

The EOS-1D C's smaller form and sensible design enable recording where larger 4K video cameras cannot or would find awkward, and its compatibility with a wide ranging fleet of Canon EOS cameras provide for options and opportunities in a wide range of situations. You can use the camera's standard Full-Frame HD setting when using Canon's EF and EF Cinema prime lenses to achieve that distinct and unique full-frame look while the Super 35mm Cropping setting will suit use with Canon's EF Cinema zoom lenses. The EOS-1D C's high quality still imagery and 4096 x 2160 video performance is complimented by the camera's ergonomic design and smart layout of the controls. Its sturdy magnesium alloy body is weather-resistant to support shooting in a variety of contexts and situations. A new grip design with easier finger placement and reduced hand fatigue supports extended use of the camera and in different environment. An Intelligent Viewfinder with transparent LCD offers bright and sharp viewing with approximately 100% field of view and magnification of 0.76x, and a customizable combination of focus points and gridlines that is directly superimposed over the image.
