The TS-E 50mm f/2.8L Macro from Canon is a tilt-shift normal-length prime lens that offers both macro capabilities and perspective control, making it an excellent choice for studio, product, and tabletop photography, as well as architectural, and interior photography. The lens offers +/- 12mm of shift and +/- 8.5° of tilt, and both types of movements can be applied independently, and parallel or perpendicular to one another. The tilt and shift functions can also be rotated +/- 90° in any direction, allowing for fine-tuned adjustments of perspective and composition. For increased stability there is a tilt-locking mechanism that can be used to ensure the lens stays in place while shooting. These movements also allow for more control over depth of field when working with the minimum focus distance of 27cm and 0.5x maximum magnification. As part of Canons sophisticated L-series of lenses, the optical design features a pair of Ultra-Low Dispersion elements to control colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved sharpness and clarity, and one aspherical element to minimise spherical aberrations and distortion. Each individual element also features Air Sphere and Subwavelength Coatings to suppress lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast and accurate colour when working in backlit situations.
