This Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens is designed to offer full-frame Sony E-mount cameras a flexible short-telephoto to mid-telephoto zoom range. The compact lens is characterised by a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture that offers consistent brightness throughout the zoom range and for controlling depth of field. Optically, a sophisticated design employs six low dispersion elements, including both XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) designs, and three aspherical elements, including both glass-molded and hybrid types, to achieve improved clarity and colour accuracy, as well as high sharpness and accurate rendering. An application of BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating to individual elements serves to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting to improve contrast and colour fidelity when working in harsher lighting conditions. Designed with two of Tamrons high-speed and high-precision linear motor AF drive focus mechanism, VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), the 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens delivers impressively quiet, fast, and precise autofocus performance, thus benefitting shooting of moving subjects as well as video applications. Furthermore, to ensure consistent image quality throughout its focusing range of 0.85m to infinitiy, the lens utilises a floating element system that works in conjunction with two VXD units. Full-time manual focus override is possible for fine-tuned manual control and is compatitble with Sonys Direct Manual Focus Function or manual control. The lens features a moisture-resistant construction to support use in inclement conditions and a flourine coating on the front lens element protects the lens against dust, fingerprints, and smearing. A zoom lock switch is incorporated on the lens body to prevent accidental barrel extension during use or transportation. Front and rear lens caps and a lens hood are supplied with this lens.
