The 150-600mm f/5-6.3 SP DI VC USD G2 lens from Tamron is an ultra-telephoto 4x zoom lens with a versatile, long-reaching focal length range, for full-frame Canon EF-mount cameras. It is also compatible with APS-C models where it will provide a 240-960mm equivalent focal length range. Optically three low dispersion elements are incorporated to greatly reduce both axial and transverse chromatic aberrations and colour fringing for increased clarity and true colour throughout the zoom range. eBAND and BBAR coatings have also been applied to suppress ghosting and lens flare. A Flex Zoom Lock mechanism allows the zoom position to be locked at any focal length to prevent accidental zoom extension. Conventional zoom lock is also featured to lock the zoom in place in the 150mm position and prevent barrel extension during transport. A ring-type Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) autofocus motor ensures focusing is fast and accurate, making it easier to capture fast-moving subjects. Full-time manual focus is also supported for fine-tuned control. When shooting handheld Vibration Compensation (VC) provides an effective 4.5-stops of image stabilisation to reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper images when working with slower shutter speeds. Three separate VC modes are available to suit various styles of shooting. Mode 1 is a balanced setting for general use, and promotes both a stabilised viewfinder image and stabilised results. Mode 2 is designed exclusively for panning movements, and Mode 3 is optimised to stabilise only during capture without stabilising the viewfinder image. A sealed, moisture-resistant construction along with a fluorine-coated front element guard against dirt, dust, moisture, and smudging. The ergonomic and durable metal barrel also incorporates textured focus and zoom rings, as well as a removable, rotating tripod collar with an Arca-type compatible foot for shooting from tripods and monopods. It is compatible with the optional Tamron TAP-in Console for fine-tuning select focusing adjustments and for updating lens firmware.
