Part of the Sigma Art Line, the Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens is a versatile wide angle lens characterised by notable optical performance. Designated for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, its 28mm focal length, which affords a classic broad field of view, pairs with a bright and fast f/1.4 maximum aperture to suit a range of photography, working in a variety of lighting conditions and employing shallow field of depth techiques. Do note that the lens is able to be used with APS-C models where it provides a 44.8mm equivalent focal length.
Boasting an advanced optical design, the lens employs a combination of low dispersion glass and aspherical elements to achieve impressive imagery. Two F Low Dispersion (FLD) and three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are utilised to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and colour accuracy, while three incorporated aspherical elements help to minimise distortion and spherical aberrations for increase overall sharpness and rendering accuracy. In addition, for improving contrast and achieving colour neutrality, especially in harsh backlit lighting, a Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to the lens elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting.
Thanks its Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM), the 28mm f/1.4mm lens produces a fast, quiet and smooth autofocus performance. An optimised AF algorithm further enhances the focusing for even smoother performance. Full-time manual override is available, achieved by simply rotating the focus ring at any time. A specialised electromagnetic aperture mechanism is incorporated in the physical design to enable greater exposure control stability that benefits especially when working with fast continuous shooting rates. The brass construction of the bayonet mount ensures precise mounting and durability while a rubber sealing around it provides dust- and splash-resistance. For easier cleaning, a protective coating is applied to the front element to render it water and oil-repellent. Last but not least, a rounded nine-balde diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing boken quality.
