Featuring an impressive telephoto length, bright aperture and well-considered lightweight design, Sonys 600mm f/4 GM OSS FE lens is designed specifically for their E-mount cameras to capture those once-in-a-lifetime, rare moments upclose, rendering it an ideal lens for sports, news, wildlife and nature photography. With a wide maximum aperture, shooting is possible in dimmer conditions. The complementary pairing of the f/4 aperture and eleven-blade diaphragm enables great depth of field control for isolating subjects, with smoother and more natural defocused areas. To meet the stringent performance and image quality standards of the G Masters series, three flourite elements and one XA (Extreme Aspherical) glass element are incorporated in the optical design for reducing chromatic aberration and colour bleeding, along with two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements and a Nano AR lens coating to reduce flare, ghosting and spherical aberations. Application of fluorine coating on the front element reduce the occurence of dust and fingerprints sticking on the lens while enabling easier cleaning. Designed with portability and durablity in mind, the lenghty glass lens consists of external and internal components constructed from lightweight and robust magnesium alloy, and weighs only 3.04kg.
Even the lens hood is constructed from carbon fiber to maintain the lightweight. Furthermore, a thoughtful redistribution of lens weight to the back facilitates subject tracking and panning during handheld shooting or shooting on a monopod. The complementary incorporation of Sonys XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motor autofocus system, which is driven by two motors, aids in tracking subjects quietly and speedily across the frame, even while shooting at high speeds. Moreover, the built in high-performance Optical SteadyShot image stabilisation enables sharp and clear images with numerous subjects and during handheld shooting. Of note, when the lens is paired with a Alpha-series camera built with in-body stabilisation, 5-axis image stabllisation becomes available. Benefitting video recording, the Power Focus function and function ring rotation work together to provide for a smooth even focus shift for shooting movies. You may shoot at ease in more challenging conditions as the lens body is both dust- and moisture-resistant.
The lenss versatile tripod mount uses bearings to promote smooth rotation and increase reliability, and features a switch to engage or disengage click stops. Users can easily switch between horizontal and vertical orientations in 90° increments when the click stops are engaged; disengaging them allows for smooth and low resistance operations when required. The lens features a drop in filter slot for 40.5mm filters or the optional VF-DCPL1 drop-in circular polariser filter. A dedicated hard case with handles on two sides and a carrying strap is included for safe storage and transportation of the lens. Compatibility with separately available 1.4x and 2x FE teleconverters means the lenss long reach can be further extended.
