The Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM is a normal-length prime lens designed for the Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. Its versatile focal length, which is ideal for everyday shooting across a variety of settings, is complemented by its speed and relatively compact in form. The bright maximum aperture is suitable for working in dimmer conditions and improving depth of field control. As a G Master lens, the Sony FE 50mm f/1.2 GM features an advanced optical design that includes three eXtreme Aspherical elements, to deliver well-corrected imagery with impressive sharpness and clarity. Furthermore, nano AR Coating II has been applied to all the elements to reduce surface reflections, flare and ghosting, thus improving contrast and colour rendering in harsher lighting conditions. This is an updated coating which suits larger, curved elements better and is more adept at reducing internal reflections. Four XD linear motor and an internal focusing design complements the optics of the lens by providing quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance.
This design also adds to a more natural intuitive Linear Response manual focus control. An AF/MF switch located on the lens barrel permits a convenient tactile control over this setting. Additionally, a focus button on the lens barrel permits tactile, rapid access to select settings while a physical de-clickable aperture ring enables smooth, silent aperture switching that is especially beneficial to video applications. The dust- and moisture-sealed design supports shooting in inclement conditions and a rubberised control rings improves handling in colder temperatures. The front element of the lens is fluorine-coated to resist dust, moisture, and fingerprints and to ease cleaning. A rounded 11-bladed diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when using selective focus techniques. The lens is supplied with front and rear lens caps, a lens hood, and a lens case.
