The Sony 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS FE Lens is a versatile telephoto lens well-suited for nature, wildlife and sports photography. With a minimum focusing distance of 2.4m, this lens is capable of close-up shots such as headshots and portraiture. Designed for Sonys full frame E-mount mirrorless cameras, this flexible lens is also compatible with APS-C models where it provides an equivalent 300-900mm focal length range. This long-reach lens features a moderate maximum aperture range which contributes to a manageable weight that benefits handheld photography, and enables high performance in various applications.
An incorporation of five extra low dispersion elements and one aspherical element in the optical design provides for impressive imagery with great sharpness, colour fidelity and accuracy in rendering. Improved contrast and colour rendering, particularly in harsher lighting, is enabled by an application of a Nano AR coating to reduce surface reflections, flare and ghosting. The lenss well-developed physical design is characterised by a DIrect Drive Super Sonic wave Motor (DDSSM) AF system to provide fast, quiet and accurate autofocus performance and full-time manual focus (MF) override. The systems Linear Response MF enables a manual focus control that is more intuitive and natural. Working to minimise the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery, the Optical SteadyShot image stablisation system offers three modes, including panning and viewfinder piority settings, for more refined user control.
Permiting quick switching between horizontal and vertial orientations, a removable rotating tripod collar is available for mounting on a stable tripod or monopod. The lens also features a rounded 11-blade diaphragm which contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality when using selective focus techniques. For easier maintanence, a fluorine coating is applied to the front element of this weather- and dust-sealed lens to discourage adherence of dust and smudges on the glass. Compatibility with separately available 1.4x and 2x FE teleconverters means the lenss long reach can be further extended.
