Canon introduces the RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual VR Lens, an entry-level stereoscopic VR lens that's made for anyone eager to turn the stuff of everyday life into augmented reality with the Canon EOS VR System. Compatible with APS-C EOS mirrorless cameras like the EOS R7, the autofocus-enabled lens has a 60° field of view akin to human vision and produces photos and video that can be viewed on popular headsets like the Apple Vision Pro and the Meta Quest 3. Driving the RF-S 7.8mm f/4 STM Dual VR lens is a gear-type stepping motor (STM) with a dual-lens autofocus mechanism, which drives the left and right lenses quickly, quietly, and in unison. This makes autofocus as simple to operate as it is with an ordinary lens. Available for both photo and video, the electronic focusing/control ring and the left-right focus difference adjustment switch allow the option to control focus on both lenses or the left lens only. The lens is compatible with Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus system, and full-time manual focus is also supported. The lens creates content in Spatial, 3D 180°, and 3D formats with a straight path optical system that features two ultra-low dispersion elements to suppress chromatic aberrations. With nine total elements in five groups, the lens sports Canon's Super Spectra Coating to reduce ghosting and flare. The lens supports light-modifying filters with a 58mm front thread, and the 5.9" minimum focusing distance means your whole world is rendered sharply. The lens is compact and lightweight, extending only 1.6" from the camera and weighing only 131 g.
