Designed for use with the full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras, the notably sleek Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM offers a short to super-telephoto focal length range. Its modest maximum aperture makes it possible to work handheld, which is aided by an Optical Image Stabiliser that helps to minimise the appearance of camera shake by five stops and is especially beneficial in challenging lighting conditions and slower shutter speed. For greater user control, there are three available IS modes to choose from: standard single-shot mode for still shots, a panning-optimised mode, and a mode that activates the Image Stabiliser during the exposure for irregular movement. In addition, the in-lens image stabiliser works hand in hand with in-body image stabiliser as well as Movie Digital IS for sharp stills and steady video recordings. Optically, the lens design incorporates six UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) element and one Super UD element to correct various abberations for clearer, sharper and more accurate imagery. This versatile lens is driven by a Dual Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor) focus system which combines both a ring-type USM and the STM (Stepper Motor) mechanism to achieve fast, smooth, and almost silent autofocusing capabilities that benefits both still and video shooting;
If required, full-time manual override for refined focusing is available when working in the the one-shot AF mode. An integrated configurable Control Ring provides intuitive control over exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation, from the lens itself. A rotation-type zoom ring allows for torque adjustment for fine-tuning the handling of the lens or to prevent the lens from accidentally extending. In addition to the weather-sealing that renders the lens dust- and moisture-resistant, the front and rear elements of the lens received a protective fluorine coating to resist fingerprints and smudges as well as to significantly ease the cleaning of the lens. The lens features a rounded nine-blade diaphragm that contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. Supplied with the lens are a lens cap, a lens hood, a dust cap, and a lens case to store and protect your lens. The included lens hood is designed with a side window to ease adjustment of specialised rotating filters, such as polarisers, while the lens hood is attached. This lens is compatible with the separately available RF 1.4x Extender and the RF 2x Extender, when working between the 300 to 500mm focal length range of the lens, if further extension of the effective focal length is desired.
