Designed for use with the full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras, the portable Canon RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM lens offers a versatile telephoto focal length range that suits shooting wildlife, sports, and travel photography. Its modest aperture range promotes a relatively lightweight of 630g and compact frame of just 165 x 80mm. An Optical Image Stabiliser helps to minimise the appearance of camera shake by up to 5.5 stops to especially benefit handheld shooting in challenging lighting conditions and slower shutter speed. Additionally, when working with R-series cameras with In-Body Image Stabiliser, up to 6 stops of stabilisation may be available. Optically, the lens design incorporates one UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) element and other aspherical elements to correct various abberations for sharper imagery while Super Spectra Coating is used to reduce flare and ghosting. This versatile lens is driven by a linear-type Nano USM (Ultrasonic Motor) focus system to achieve fast and silent autofocusing that benefits both still and video shooting;
If required, full-time manual override for refined focusing is available when working in the the one-shot AF mode. Close-focusing of smaller subjects is possible, thanks to a maximum magnification of 0.41x at the 400mm position. An integrated configurable Control Ring provides intuitive control over exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation, from the lens itself. The lens features a rounded nine-blade diaphragm that contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. Supplied with the lens are a lens cap and a dust cap. This lens is compatible with the separately available RF 1.4x Extender and the RF 2x Extender, if further extension of the effective focal length is desired.
