The OM System M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO II is a compact and lightweight lens which offers a wide-to-portrait-length perspective with a 24 to 80mm equivalent focal range for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. A constant f/2.8 maximum aperture supports consistent low-light performance and improved depth-of-field control throughout the zoom range. Optically, an advanced design consisting of two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements, two aspherical elements, one dual super aspherical (DSA) element, one extra-low dispersion aspherical (EDA) element, one HD element, and two high refractive index (HR) elements minimises aberrations, distortions and colour fringing for exceptional image quality. In addition, a ZERO (Zuiko extra-low reflection optical) coating reduces lens flare and ghosting to improve contrast and colour fidelity when working in harsh lighting.
Complementing its optics, lens employs a movie and still compatible (MSC) autofocus system that delivers smooth, quiet and fast autofocus performance to benefit both photo and video applications. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm aids in producing a smooth bokeh quality. The lens is weather-sealed for operation in inclement conditions and a flourine coating on the front element helps to repel dust, water droplets, grease, and dirt for easy maintenance and cleaning of the lens.
