The M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.2 PRO from Olympus is a versatile Micro Four Thirds wide-angle prime lens that offers a 34-mm equivalent focal length. The lens pairs a sophisticated optical design with a fast f/1.2 maximum aperture, making it well-suited to working in difficult lighting conditions while also providing greater control over depth of field.
The optical construction uses a 15 elements in 11 groups design that combines one Super Extra-Low Dispersion element, three extra-low dispersion elements, one Extra-Low Dispersion Dual-Sided Aspherical element, one Extra-Low Dispersion Aspherical element, one Super High Refractive Index element, and one aspherical element to significantly reduce both chromatic and spherical aberrations for notable image clarity, sharpness, and colour accuracy. A Z Coating Nano has been applied to individual elements to limit flare and ghosting for improved contrast. This is complimented by a nine-blade aperture that helps to produce pleasing out of focus areas when working with shallow depth of field techniques. The lens is finished with a weather-sealed construction to provide peace of mind when working in difficult environments. It also features a Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system for smooth, quiet, and fast focusing performance that is suitable to both stills and video recording. A manual focus clutch permits quick switching to MF control and a printed depth of field scale is also featured on the lens barrel for pre-focusing and hyper focal focusing techniques.
