Designed for full-frame Z-mount mirrorless cameras, the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2 S lens from Nikon is a fast, normal prime that built for speed and sharpness. The bright f/1.2 maximum aperture supports working in available lighting and offers great control over depth of field for isolating subjects. Optically advanced, the lens features 17 elements in 15 groups, including two extra-low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements to achieve high clarity, colour fidelity and sharpness by greatly reducing a variety of aberrations and distortions. In addition, surface and internal reflections are kept to a minimal to reduce lens flare and ghosting via the applications of ARNEO and Nano Crystal Coatings while a Super Integrated Coating helps to ensure consistent, accurate colours.
For impressively quick, quiet and accurate autofocusing performance that suits both stills and video applications, the lens utilises a multi-focus system that incorporates two synchronised AF drives units with stepping motors. Full-time manual focus override is available for fine-tuning focus. The lens also features an internal focusing design to maintain the len's overall length during use and for promoting faster focusing speeds. An assignable L-Fn button works together with camera-based Fn buttons for flexible and seamless workflow when changing exposure settings and other functions. For added flexibility, the control ring for adjusting manual focus can also be programmed for adjusting other camera and exposure settings, such as aperture control and exposure compensation. Fast continuous shooting rates, on the other hand, benefits from the greater exposure control provided by the specialised electromagnetic aperture mechanism. The dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel enables working in less than ideal weather conditions. A supplied lens hood provides the front element with some protection from accidental damage while shielding the lens from flare.
