The APO-Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH from Leica is a wide-angle prime lens designed for use with full-frame L-mount mirrorless cameras. It can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 52.5mm equivalent focal length. It offers a bright maximum aperture of f/2 to benefit working in low-light conditions and with selective focusing techniques. Optically the lens uses five aspherical elements to combat distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness, while its apochromatic design uses anomalous partial dispersion glass to reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations. Multi-layer coatings have also been applied to individual elements to fight flare and ghosting for increased contrast and accurate colour. This is complimented by a Dual Syncro Drive stepping motor to provide fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance to suit both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also available for fine-tuned adjustments. The lens is weather-sealed for protection against dust and moisture, and a water-repellent AquaDura coating has been applied to the front and rear elements.
