The APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm f/2.8-4 Lens from Leica is an apochromatic telephoto zoom for full-frame and APS-C-sized L-mount mirrorless cameras. The lens is impressive fast, thanks to internal focusing and zooming. The optical design includes 23 elements with 17 groups including seven anomalous partial dispersion elements to produce sharp images with true-colour and a significant reduction in chromatic aberration. Two dedicated focusing elements are driven by linear stepping motors. The f/2.8-4 maximum aperture is beneficial when working in low light, and an optical image stabilization system further compensates for up to 3.5 stops of camera shake to better handheld imaging. The lens also features Leicas AquaDura hydrophobic coating on the front and rear elements, to guard against moisture and smudging, and a fully dust- and water-sealed design. A removable tripod collar is included, which uses firm detents at 90° positions for seamless switching between horizontal and vertical shooting orientations, and an included lens hood helps to guard against stray light from entering the lens.
