Well-suited for a variety of photography, including sports and wildlife, the Nikon Nikkor Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S Lens is a versatile Z-mount telephoto zoom lens designed for use with FX image sensors on mirrorless cameras. Its broad telephoto range is complemented by a minimum focus distance of 75cm coupled with a 0.38x magnification to benefit working with close-up subjects. This lens incorporates Inner Balance technology that maintains stability when tracking moving subjects and shooting atop a gimbal head. Additionally, its relative lightweight and compact form factor renders it ideal as a lens to pack in your kit for travel. Characterised by an optical design which includes six extra-low dispersion (ED) elements and two Super ED elements, the lens achieves markedly clear and colour-accurate images thanks to the elimination of chromatic aberrations and colour fringing throughout the zoom range. Additionally, application of ARNEO coating and Nano Crystal coating suppresses flare, ghosting, and surface reflections for imagery of improved contrast and colour fidelity. The Vibration Reduction Image Stabilisation complements the optics by reducing the appearance of camera shake by about 5.5 stops, benefitting the lens use in low-light and handheld shooting. This zoom lens employs a multi-focus system, which incorporates two separate synchronised AF drive units for very fast and accurate focusing, and stepping motors for smooth and silent autofocus performance that benefit both stills and video applications.
Full-time manual focus override is available for increased focus control whenever required and the internal focusing design promotes faster focusing as only the internal lens group move. While the programmable control ring is set to adjust manual focus by default, it can be flexibly programmed to control aperture or compensate for exposure. Two assignable L.Fn buttons are integrated to work in conjunction with your cameras function buttons for quick adjustments in exposure settings and other functions. The integrated OLED information panel on the lens body allow quick check of aperture, focus settings, and depth of field for a more seamless workflow. This easy to handle zoom features a short zoom throw rotation of just 80° to enable quick switching between the 100mm to the 400mm positions. Also, the updated zoom design prevents lens creep to avoid the need to adjust torque of tension settings, whether the lens is pointing straight up or down. The dust- and moisture-resistant lens barrel and the front fluorine coating provides for operation in inclement weather, while the rotating tripod collar affords well-balanced support when operating from a monopod or tripod. A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh. This lens is compatible with optional Z-Teleconverter TC-1.4x and TC -2x to further extend the reach of the lens.
