The NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S from Nikon is an ultra-wide zoom covering a wide-angle to portrait-length range for Nikons FX-format Z-series mirrorless system. Ideal for landscapes, architecture, and astrophotography, its constant f/4 maximum aperture ensures consistent results throughout the zoom range. The optical design uses four aspherical elements to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion, while four extra-low dispersion elements reduce colour fringing and chromatic aberrations. Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings are also used to suppress flare and ghosting for sharp images with accurate colour, and the exposed elements feature a fluorine coating that provides protection against dust, grease, and water droplets.
A stepping motor provides fast, quiet, and precise autofocus performance that is well-suited to both stills and video applications. Full-time manual focus override is also available, and an internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length, benefitting focusing speeds. An electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability that is particularly useful when working with fast continuous shooting rates, and a rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces attractive out of focus areas. A programmable control ring is set to adjust manual focus by default, but can also be set to control aperture or exposure compensation. The lens barrel is both dust and moisture resistant, and has a button-less retractable design to maintain a more compact form factor when not in use.
