The Sony a7 IV is an advanced hybrid mirrorless camera that deliver strong performance for both still photography and video recording. Characterised by its 33MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor, a7 IV performances in low light with a broad sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200, a dynamic range of 15 stops, ability to record files in raw, JPEG, or 10-bit HEIF format, up to 10fps continuous shooting, 4k 60p video recording and advanced AF tracking performance. When utilising the full width of the sensor, UHD 4K 30p XAVC HS 10-bit recording can be made to offer 7K oversampling The fast processing capabilities of the BIONZ XR engine also helps to minimise rolling shutter and other motion distortions for improved clarity in the rendering of moving subjects. In addition, the buffer allows recording of up to 828 consecutive uncompressed raw and JPEG frames when utilising a CFexpress Type A card in the CFexpress Type A/SD (UH-II) compatible memory card slot. An additional SD (UHS-II) card compatible slot provides even more flexibility with regards to storage. With two codecs - XAVC HS and XAVC-I employed, a7 IV can cater to different workflows, depending on whether more detail at smaller bitrates are required or performance consistency and quality at bitrates of up to 600 Mb/s are preferred. The incorporation of S-Cinetone, Hybrid Log-Gamme, and S-Log 3 helps to produce natural and balanced tones, permits recording within a wide colour gamut, and increased grading control in the shadow to mid-tone regions of the image. An enhanced 5.5 stop effective 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilisation system compensates for five different types of camera shake during handheld stills and video shooting.
Specifically for video, an Active IS mode is available for more precise stabilisation methods to achieve even smoother footage straight out of camera. The a7 IV utilises a Fast Hybrid AF system with 759 phase-detection point for fast and accurate focusing with sensitivity down to -4 EV and is available for use in all recording modes, benefitting both stills and video applications. Its AI-based Real-time Tracking is a subject recognition system that detects colour, pattern, and subject distance information for high accuracy and focusing speed. The Real-time Eye AF refines the autofocus accuracy by recognising human, animal and birds eyes for critical sharpness; it can even maintain focus on the subjects eye as it moves in and out of frame, which benefit working in more unpredictable shooting situations. Available for video recording as well, the Real-time Eye AF is designed with seven-step AF transition speeds and five-step AF subject shift sensitivity controls to allow for refining how fast focus shifts from point to point and how smoothly focusing shifts happen. Meanwhile, Focus Map offers a unique way of visualising depth of field that shows you where different parts of the scene appears in front or behind the focus point depending on the chosen aperture. If you would like adjust the focusing position when working with Autofocus, the AF Assist enables you to switch over to Manual focus in an intuitive and fast manner. Designed with an improved 3.68m-dot QVGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF that is 1.6x higher in resolution than its predecessor for sharper, clear viewing, both standard fps and 120 fps frame rates for smooth motion rendering are supported. A side-opening 3.0" 1.03m-dot vari-angle articulating screen can be used as front-facing for self-recording or vlogging, or tilted up or down to capture from high or low shooting angles.
This LCD touchscreen also provides an intuitive way for navigating the menu. A range of ports and interfaces - full-sized HDMI A port, micro USB port, 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports and the Multi Interface Shoe (which supports working with the optional ECM-B1M Shotgun Microphone or XLR-K3M XLR Adapter kit) - ensures connectivity to external recorders when required. Additionally, the USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port enables camera charging or powering from another power source, and the ability to pair the camera with an optional Ethernet wired LAN adapter to provide 1000BASE-T connectivity, wired remote shooting, or FTP transferring. Connection of the camera with a computer or mobile device via USB also supports the possibility of Live Streaming directly from the camera for live social media and video conferencing. Built-in Wi-Fi permits remote camera control and wireless data sharing to mobile devices. Bluetooth helps to maintain a reliable connection between the camera and mobile device when using the Imaging Edge mobile app. This camera body comes supplied with a NP-FZ100 rechargeable Li-ion battery, an AC adapter and power cord, a body cap, shoulder strap, accessory shoe cap, eyepiece cup, and USB Type-C to Type-A Cable.
