Featuring a new full-frame stacked sensor, an updated DiGIC X processor, and a refined body design, the Canon EOS R3 is built perform with speed, versatility, and reliability. This mirrorless camera body boasts a 24.1MP full-frame stacked CMOS Sensor that provides impressively fast readout speeds to reduce rolling shutter distortion and enables faster shooting performance at 30fps for up to 150 raw frames. Its back-illuminated design more efficiently gather light to reduce noise, improve clarity, and achieve smoother colour rendering, especially in low light. Also benefitting video performance, the 24MP sensor is capable of high resolution 6K raw 12-bit internal recording and uncropped 4K 120 fps 10-bit recording with Canon Log. The EOS R3 also offers HDR-PQ recording, either through in-camera HDR production or through external recording via the HDMI port, which supports a clean 4K output at up to 60 fps. Compression options, including All-I, IPB, and IPB Light, as well as ability to use Dual Pixel CMOS AF II when shooting up to 6K raw are available, A complementary updated DIGIC X processor enables capable processing and ability to perform high-speed tasks simultaneously, which includes 30fps high-speed shooting while performing AF and AE readings before each frame, and realises a broad sensitivity range of ISO 100-102400 high-resolution, which can be expanded to ISO 50-204800.
The pairing of the new sensor and refined image processor affords the new generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, which features 1053 selectable auto focusing points that cover about 100% of the image for faster, more responsive, and more precise focusing performance. Offering smooth and fast focusing when working with still imagery, critical focus can be attained even when shooting and tracking of moving subjects. Enhanced subject detection and tracking is also afforded by this upgraded phase-detection focusing system. Not only can can the R3 intelligently recognise eyes, faces, heads (including helmets), animals, and vehicles, it will automatically lock onto these subjects and maintain a sharp focus throughout burst captures. In addition, the Dual Pixel AF II's low-luminance limit in the R3 has been improved to focus down to an marked -7.5EV for accurate focusing in dark conditions. Also of note, a once popular film camera feature, the Eye Control AF is refined and tuned to work with R3's Dual Pixel CMOS AF's intelligent focusing capabilities. This new feature in EOS digital cameras allows to the shooter to determine the focus point by simply looking through the electronic viewfinder, after which the camera's subject tracking and detection will take over to keep the sighted subject in sharp focus. The EOS R3 incorporates a five-axis sensor shift image stabilisation that impressively compensates up to eight stops of camera shake, depending on the lens in use, to effectively support handheld shooting with shutter speeds.
Beyond the performance attributes, this camera design features a generously high-resolution 5.67m-dot 0.5" OLED electronic viewfinder for markedly clear and bright eye-level viewing that is coupled by a fast 120 fps refresh rate to offer a more realistic viewfinder experience. A rear 3.2" 4.15m-dot LCD touchscreen is also featured for vivid playback and live view monitoring. It also features a vari-angle design that benefits working with front facing recording, such as when vlogging, as well as from high and low angles. Modelled after flagship DSLR design, the R3 sports a robust and ergonomic body design that comes with an integrated vertical grip that means shooters can working in comfort when shooting in the horizontal or vertical orientation. The larger body design can accomodate the high-capacity LP-E19 battery for longer shooting sessions. 1000BASE-T Ethernet interface and RJ-45 port provides for a fast and secure hardwired connection; alternatively the built-in 5 GHz and Bluetooth offer fast wireless file transferring and remote camera control via the Canon Camera Connect App, which also supports geotagging your files by using the connected mobile device's location data. Integrated dual memory card slots pave the way for flexible storage on CPexpress Type B and SD UHS-II memory cards with faster read and write speeds to better support the high resolution recording and fast continuous shooting. In the R3, the hot shoe is updated to a more versatile Multi-Function Shoe on which an added row of pins at the front of the design permits added accessory functionality as well as provide power to select accessories which have typically rely on separate batteries. These select accessories include the optional ST-E10 Speedlite Transmitter, DM-E1DStereo Microphone, and AD-P1 Smartphone Link Adapter, as well as the AD-E1 Multi-Function Shoe Adapter that provides compatibility with legacy shoe-mounted accessories.
The EOS R3 comes supplied with LC-E19 battery pack, charger, eyecup, camera cover, battery pack cover, accessory shoe cover, camera strap, cable protector, interface cable, and power cord.
