Offering longer reach, speed and portability, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 VII is a pocket-sized point and shoot camera featuring an impressive lineup of stills and video capabilities. Characterised by an extended zoom, the RX100 VII sports a 24-200mm-equivalent ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens that covers wide-angle to telephoto focal lengths for greater shooting flexibility. Optically, the 15 elements in 12 groups lens includes four advanced aspherical elements out of eight to markedly reduce aberrations and distortion for impressive sharpness and improved accuracy. The applicaiton of ZEISS T* anti-reflective coating affords greater contrasr and colour fidelity by suppressing reflections and glare. Adding to the lenss performance, Optical SteadyShot image enables a four-stop reduction in the appearance of camera shake during handheld shooting while Clear Image Zoom is useful in extending the effective reach of the zoom with minimal image degradation. For those recording while walking, capturing smooth 4K movies is enabled by a newly supported "Active" mode image stabilisation and simple movie editing via the Imaging Edge Movie Edit add-on app. Benefitting the most from the updated lens design is the 20.1MP 1" Exmor RS CMOS sensor which works hand in hand with an improved BIONZ X image processor, for fast shooting performance, widened sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 12800, and UHD 4K video recording.
The sensors design provides a 357-point hybrid AF system that is complemented by 425 contrast-detection AF points and high-speed 0.02 seconds AF acquisition for quick and accurate focus performance and subject tracking in both stills and video modes. The speedy updated sensor design also provides for Blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 20fps with no interruption on the viewfinder screen or LCD display to support subject tracking. For working with subjects moving at high speeds, the Single Burst Shooting mode enables shooting at an impressive 90-fps setting. Real-time Eye AF for both humans and animals are available for stills and movies, enabling you to compose while maintaining focus on your moving subject. A stacked design and front-end LSI also contribute to quickened operation and enhanced image quality. Video performance has been upgraded through the incorporation of S-Log3 and HLG gamma settings, and High Frame Rate shooting allows you to record at up to 960 fps for slow-motion playback. The form factor of the RX100 VII remains nearly as compact without sacrificing on functionality, despite the integrated 24-200mm. Easy and clear eye-level viewing is provided for by a pop-up 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder; or, alternatively, a 3.0" 921.6k-dot LCD touchscreen can be used. The LCD features a tilting design to support working from high and low angles and its touch capability permits the use of Touch Focus and Touch Shutter functions. The camera also sports wireless connectivity in the form of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for sharing imagery to a linked mobile device or for embedding location information from your smartphone. An built-in 3.5mm port for external microphone is available to support professional audio recording for your vlogs and movies. Last but not least, metadata added to the camera enables you to view videos recorded vertically on the camera in the same orientation on your smartphones and computers.
