The Panasonic Lumix GH6 is redesigned with a new sensor and silicone to provide impressive still performance as well as powerful video capability powerful to suit photographers and cinematographers. Its ability to record high bitrates for intensive post-production editing and unlimited recording time for enabling recording of varying lengths affords the users of this camera a flexibility unchallenged by its predecessors in the GH series. The hybrid Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera is characterised by its Venus Engine wih improved processing power that supports fast sensor readouts for internal recording of 5.7K 30p in Apple ProRes 422 HQ, FHD 300p, and handheld 100MP stills, which can be recorded via one of the cameras dual memory card slots using a CFexpress Type B card; unlimited recording of 10-bit 4120p footage can be recorded using the SD card slot. Simultaneous internal and external recording via the HDMI port is also available to broaden your options for redundancy and storage. Audio-wise, the GH6s built-in mic is capable of capturing high quality 48kHz 24-bit audio recording at all all times. If required, an external mic can be used to record up to 96kHz 24-bit recording. The cameras HDMI can output four channels of audio data when recording interviews with multiple mic. Powerful enough to enables 75 fps continuous shooting or 300 fps variable frame (VFR) slow motion footage, the Venus Engines fast sensor readout limits rolling shutter distortion so that skyscrapers remain vertical when shooting on the move and fast moving objects can be captured on slow motion. The 25MP sensor also offers 12+ stops of dynamic range shooting in V-Log and V-Gamut or with an improved 13+ stops of dynamic range using the Dynamic Range Boost Mode, which is available for footage recorded at up to 60 fps.
The GH6 offers a built-in 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation which offers up to 7.5 stops of deviance from the shutter speed dictated by the reciprocal rule at all focal lengths. This image stabilisation technology complements the optical image stabilisation of Panasonic lenses seamlessly. Electronic stabilisation is available albeit a slight resulting cropping effect, with the Boost I.S. mode simulating a shot locked off on a tripod. For use with an anamorphic lens, the Image Stabiliser Anamorphic setting is available. Superior image quality is also supported by the cameras intelligent detail processing which offers 3D noise reduction by comparing three seqential frames before removing the noise that appears in only one of the frames automatically. At triple the processing speed of the autofocus as compared to its predecessor, the GH6 powers a 315-area contrast detection depth-from-defocus (DFD) system. The updated algorithim helps to create a 3D, real-time depth map by collecting data from several focal planes to calculate the distance to your subject and predict where it would be in the following frame. The subject-tracking focusing system supports face, eye, head, body and animal recogition. The intelligent aufocus will switch from body recognition to face to eye recognition automatically as the camera approaches the subject, thus improving sharpness. In addition, Focus Limiter, Manual Focus Assist, and an updated joystick supports fast and accurate focusing. Its Zone AF is less obstructive as an overlay and Face Priority in Multi Metering keeps the exposure from changing unnecessarily. Splashproof, dustproof and freezeproof to -10°C, the GH6 is durably housed inside an magnesium alloy body and features extensive sealing. An electric cooling fan helps to achieve effective heat dispersal from the sensor, engine, and memory card despite the sealed design.
You can compose and review your images using either the 0.76x OLED viewfinder or 3" 1.84m-dot rear LCD touchscreen that has a free-angle, and tilt-and swivel design. With dual ring selectors that provide more tactile and straightforward navigation through menus and dedicated buttons for key features, including an additional video record button on the face of the GH6 to render it more accessible when mounted on a shoulder rig, this relatively lightweight and portable workhorse is built for ease of use. Other features such as Wave Form Monitor, Vector Scope, and Luminance Spot Meter keeps you updated with vital information of your levels, while Focus Transition, Frame Indicator and Frame Marker enhance your workflow. Various picture profiles and Cinelike modes are also available for to choose from when sharing files to help improve efficacy and save time, depending on your needs. Wireless options, including WiFi 5GHz and Bluetooth v5.0, can be used to transfer data, as well as enable remote control of up to 12 GH6 via the Lumix Tether App. When prepping those cameras, the Lumix SYNC app can be used to wirelessly match the recording settings. In terms of data transfer, the integrated USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port enables 10Gb/s data transfer. It can also be used to power the camera or charge the included DMW-BLK22 battery that provides about 360 shots per charge. Other accessories supplied with the camera includes a battery charger with AC-USB adapter, BNC conversion cable for TC In/Out, USB Type-A to USB Type-C Cable, Cable Holder, embroidered GH6 shoulder strap, and body cap.
