The Canon EOS 90D is a DSLR camera body characterised by its updated high-resolution 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor that delivers improved image clarity, resolution, and a wide dynamic range. Furthermore, its broad sensitivity range of ISO 100-25600 and low noise suits working in difficult lighting conditions. Complemented by advanced imaging processing, the 90D is capable of recording UHD 4k30 and Full HD 120p videos, as well as supports continuous stills shooting rates of up to 10fps. Additionally, 4K time-lapses can be produced in-camera, and 4K frame grabs enables shooting 8MP stills at up to 30fps.
A wide-area 45-point cross-type phase-detection AF (Autofocus) system affords quick and precise focusing in a range of lighting conditions down to -3V, benefitting stills shooting with the optical viewer, while the 45 sensors provides a broad coverage well-suited for tracking and maintaining focus on moving subjects. A series of four AF area selection modes are available to meet varied auto focusing needs and preferences. Meanwhile, recording video or shooting in live view is benefitted by the utlilisation of the 5481-point Dual Pixel CMOS AF system which offers smooth and fast focusing performance much in the same way a designated video camera does. This focusing system further supports focusing performance when shooting stills and tracking movements in subjects such that critical focus is attained during each shot. An updated 220000-pixel AE (Automatic Exposure) contributes to autofocus and exposure metering precision, and enables Colour Tracking for detecting skin colours more accurately.
The complementary physical design includes a vari-angle 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD to allow working from high and low angles and to facilitate intuitive menu navigation and touch-to-focus operation. In addition, a pentaprism type optical viewfinder provides full frame coverage for bright, clear, and realistic viewing that supports compositional accuracy when shooting with this DSLR. AF points and mode, compositional grids, a horizontal electronic level, and various assistive features can be displayed while shooting with the viewfinder. Built-in Wi-FI and Bluetooth enables wireless connectivity with a linked smart device for transferring images and videos, and remote camera control via the Canon Camera Connect app. This app also allows mobile raw-editing workflow for increased post-production freedom. The included LP-E6N battery provides an ample 1300 shots when fully charged.
The accompanying EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM from Canon is a versatile zoom lens optimised for both stills and video. Designed for APS-C format DSLRs, it features a 35mm equivalent focal length of 28.8-216mm to cover wide-angle to telephoto perspectives.
With NANO USM technology, the lens features both a fast, stills-optimised ring-type USM Ultrasonic Motor and a smooth, silent video-optimised STM Stepping Motor. This dual-purpose AF motor also offers faster performance throughout the zoom range. An Image Stabiliser compensates for up to four stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting, and a Dynamic IS function works to reduce camera shake when recording video. This lens is also compatible with the optional PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter for more natural and silent zooming control when recording video.
Optically it features one Ultra-Low Dispersion element and one precision moulded aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and limit spherical aberrations and distortions, for increased clarity and sharpness. The exterior of the lens features a smooth satin finish, metal lens mount, dedicated focus mode and Image Stabiliser switches, and a black ring that clearly separates the zoom and focus rings for intuitive handling.
