Trade-in FAQs
Can I sell my gear outright?
Yes, we will consider paying cash for your camera gear, however you will generally get more value when trading it against other gear.
Can I trade in against second hand gear?
Yes, when trading against new or second hand equipment, the items being purchased must be at least the value of the amount offered for your gear in order to receive a "Trade-in" price. It the items being bought are less than those being sold, then we will offer you a "Purchase" price.
Do you sell on behalf?
We will consider selling on behalf for all items with a retail value of $5000 or more. We charge a 15% commission on all "on behalf" sales.
Can you give me an estimate of what you'd pay without me having to bring my gear in store?
Email us a list of the equipment you want to sell along with a few photos to sales@progear.co.nz. We will respond with a ball park offer. We can only make a final offer once we've inspected your gear in store.
How long does it take for you to assess my gear?
Depending on how many trades we have in the pipeline and the availability of shop staff, trade assessments can take between 1 and 5 days.
How long is you offer valid for?
Once our offer has been sent, it is valid for 7 days.
Do you buy old camera gear?
As we are legally obliged to provide a warranty with all second hand items sold, we cannot buy camera gear for which we can no longer buy parts for. Generally, and item over 10 years old would not be considered. The exception to this is old film cameras which do not have any electronics.
What happens to the equipment you don't buy?
Equipment that we don't buy will be returned to you if sent to us in the mail. If brought into the store in person, we will hold it for 28 days before of disposing it.
Warranty when buying second hand items.
A 90 day warranty will apply to all second hand items purchased from Progear.
Second Hand Rating Explained
For more info have a look at our page that covers our second hand ratings in more detail.
It is a point of professionalism that we do not sell second-hand cameras and equipment that are not in full working condition. All stock available for resale has either retained its full functionality since manufacture or has been repaired by the manufacturer to do so. The differences in rating are based solely only on physical appearance. If there is a compromise in functionality so miniscule we think it passable, we will describe this condition in detail.
