The Alpha a6400 from Sony is a versatile and compact APS-C-format mirrorless camera packed with professional features, making it well-suited to capturing both photo and video. The camera features a 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor that work together to provide impressive image quality with a standard ISO range up to 32,000 for both stills and movies, expandable up to ISO 102,400 for still images, and internal 4K30 and Full HD 1080p120 video recording with full pixel readout.
Additional features include autofocus aquisition in just 0.02 seconds, Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking capabilities, high-speed shooting up to 11 fps and silent shooting up to 8 fps, both with AF/AE tracking. The processor also offers additional benefits for videographers with the inclusion of an S&Q (Slow & Quick) Motion setting to capture Full HD video at frame rates from 1-120 fps, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) which supports HDR workflows, and both S-Log2 and S-Log3 for colour grading flexibility. A 425-point phase-detection and 425-point contrast-detection system work together for fast and accurate focusing.
The a6400 is capable of internal 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) movie recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning to collect about 2.4x the amount of data required for 4K movies, and then oversamples it to produce high quality 4K footage. Focusing during movie shooting is benefitted by the Fast Hybrid AF technology, which keeps the subject in constant smooth focus. The camera also features built-in interval recording that can be set anywhere between 1 and 60 seconds, with a total number of shots from 1 to 9999.
All this is housed inside a durable magnesium-alloy body with anti-dust functionality that protects the optical filter. Compose your images using the high-resolution XGA Tru-Finder 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 120 fps viewing mode for fast-moving subjects, or use the rear 3.0" 921.6k-dot touchscreen TFT LCD monitor that tilts 180° up and 74° down, making it easy to work from a range of angles. This tilting screen will be particularly useful for selfie-shooters capturing both stills and video, including vloggers. The touchscreen also permits touch-to-focus control. Finally, the a6400 includes built-in WiFi with NFC for wireless remote control and image sharing with a linked mobile device.
