Lighter and smaller than its peers, the AF 50mm f/1.4 FE II from Samyang is a fast standard prime lens for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless digital cameras, Its compact form factor renders it an ideal companion for compact Sony mirrorless cameras with a gimbal. Sporting a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, the lens benefits working in low-light conditions and offers increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques. The inclusion of ultra-precision aspherical elements and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm complement to produce natural and refined bokeh. For a close up and dramatic shot, the lens provides a minimum focus distance of just 40cm.

The rest of the optics include high refractive (HR) and extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements to minimise aberrations for increased contrast and edge to edge sharpness. The lens's advanced autofocus motor minimises breathing and works in conjunction with Sony cameras' AF systems for quick, quiet and precise focusing performance that benefits both stills and video recording. Manual focus override is also available for more refined control.

The rugged all-metal construction of the versatile lens is enhanced by weather sealing for use in inclement conditions. A textured focus ring, which can be easily switched to function as a clickless aperture ring by changing the "Custom" switch on the lens barrel, is also incorporated in the physical design to add functionality and ergonomics. Next to the "Custom" switch, a "Focus Hold" button is situated, giving you the ability to keep the lens locked to that focusing distance and activate custom settings, such as Eye AF.
