In addition, a micro-HDMI port permits 10-bit 4:2:2 recording to an optional external recorder. The X-E4's backside illumination sensor (BSI) design contributes to smooth tonal rendering, improved low-light performance, and a wide native sensitivity range of ISO 160-12800 for working in a variety of lighting condition. Furthermore, the sensor design houses a hybrid autofocus system, combining 425 phase-detection points with a contrast detection system for fast and accurate autofocus performance in a variety of lighting conditions down to -7 EV.
Reminiscent of a rangefinder, the X-E4 features a sleek and simplistic styling that renders it distinctive in Fujifilm's lineup. Its 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder is positioned at the top corner to enable comfortable eye-level viewing while its rear 3.0" touchscreen LCD has a 180°tilting design to suit working from various angles. Wireless connectivity in the form of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permits wireless sharing of images to mobile device as well as enable the use of the connected device to remotely control the camera. The X-E4 comes supplied with a lithium battery pack, body cap, USB cable, shoulder strap and headphone adapter.
The accompanying XF 35mm f/2 R WR Lens from Fujifilm is designed for use with their APS-C format X-series cameras, where it will provide a 35mm equivalent focal length of 53mm. It features a fast maximum aperture of f/2, making it well-suited to working in low-light conditions and for selective control of depth-of-field. A rounded 9-blade diaphragm ensures that out of focus areas are smooth and pleasing. A 9 element in 6 group design incorporates two ED and two aspherical elements to minimize distortions and aberrations, and it uses a Nano-GI coating to reduce ghosting and flare. There is a physical aperture ring present for manual control, and it uses a fast and near-silent internally focusing AF system with the ability to acquire focus in as little as 0.08 seconds. With eight seals used in the lens barrel, it is weather and dust resistant, and capable of functioning in temperatures as low as -10°C.
