The Sony Alpha a6600 is a sleek and versatile APS-C-format E-mount mirrorless camera body that is well-suited for both stills and video. its updated 24.2MP CMOS sensor is characterised by minimal noise and a high sensitivity range of ISO 100-32000, which can be expanded to ISO 102400 to support working in dim conditions. The combination of this revised sensor and BIONZ X processor provides more efficient processing and faster focusing. It avails high-resolution photos, a top continuous shooting rate of 11 fps with AF and AE, and affords 16-bit recording with 14-bit raw file output that features a wider tonal and colour scale; Video recording of up to UHD 4K is possible in multiple frame rates up to 30fps with no recording time limit, thus allowing for extended clip lengths. Moreover, the a6600 also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) content, offering extensive customisable colour and gamma controls that include adjustment of gamma, black level, knee, colour level, and more.

Offering fast precise focusing in as little as 0.02 seconds, the a6600 features an apt 4D FOCUS system that utilises 425 phase-detection points along with 425 contrast-detection areas, and covers 84% of the image frame. The focus system is capable of Real-time Eye AF, which bases focus on recognised subject's eyes for portraits of both humans or animals for both still and video applications, and is available in both AF-S and AF-C modes. Handheld shooting of stills and videos, as well as slower shutter speeds, are supported with the integrated 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabliisation that compensates for and minimises the appearance of five different possible types of camera shake with all mounted lenses.

The imaging capabilities are complemented by a robust magnesium alloy body that is moisture- and dust-resistant to allow working in harsh conditions. A rigid metal lens mount is durable and supports working with larger, heavier lenses. The a6600 body, nevertheless, is compact and is characterised by a high resolution XGA Tru-Finder 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder for a bright and clear eye-level viewing; it even features a 120-fps viewing mode for smooth tracking of fast-moving subjects. Alternatively, a rear tilting 3.0" 921.6k-dot touchscreen LCD monitor is available for shooting from high and low working angles while providing intuitive touch-to-focus control. The White Magic technology incorporated in the screen's design features an RGBW pixel structure that increases brightness to support usage in harsher lighting. For greater audio control during video recording, a 3.5mm headphone port and a microphone port are available. Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC (Near Field Communication) permits one-touch connection between the camera and compatible mobile devices to faciltate online imagery sharing and wireless remote control over the camera.

An AP-FZ100 rechargeable lithium-ion battery is supplied with the camera, and is rated for about 810 shots per charge when working with the LCD screen. A USB connection to a computer or mobile battery offers an alternative power source or mode of charging the battery. A micro-USB cable, AC adapter, body cap for E-mount camera, shoulder strap, accessory shoe cap, and an eyepiece cup are also included in the box.
