Versatile and portable, the EOS 850D from Canon offers advanced imaging capabilities in an easy to use design. The 850D features a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor for an expanded sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200 and a fast continuous shooting rate of 7 fps.

When shooting stills using the optical viewfinder, a wide area 45-point all cross-type phase-detect AF system ensures quick and accurate focusing in a variety of shooting scenarios, including low contrast and difficult lighting. The broad coverage of the 45 sensors affords efficient tracking and focus maintenance on moving subjects; in addition, the EOS iTR AF benefits portrait shooting by pioritising detected faces in a scene.

Alternatively, the sensor's design also facilitates Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, which uses phase-detection autofocus to ensure fast, accurate, and smooth performance for both video and stills shooting in live view. Acquiring focus quickly and accurately for shooting and tracking moving subjects, this system also provides for Eye Dectection AF to prioritise focus on a recognised subject's eye. For shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode provides smooth and natural focusing when switching between different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Subject tracking in movies is improved thanks to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognise subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery. The Touch AF system enables rack focus by simply touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen for intuitive focus changes.

Along side Full HD and HD recording, the 850D supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 24 fps. Availability of vertical video output supports vlogging applications.  An external microphone jack is incorporated into the body design for greater control over your recorded sound. Movie Electronic IS is also featured to minimise the appearance of camera shake across five axes for smoother, steadier recording when shooting handheld.

The camera is finished with a large 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD for easy menu navigation, playback control and live view monitoring, and its vari-angle design makes it easier to work from otherwise difficult high and low angles. Alternatively, an optical pentamirror viewfinder serves as a clear means for eye-level shooting. Built-in Wi-Fi is also available for quick and convenient pairing with a smartphone or tablet for wireless image sharing, and Bluetooth permits image sharing to and remote camera control from a linked mobile device.

Here the 850D is paired with the EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 IS STM from Canon, a standard zoom lens designed for use on Canon APS-C size sensors. The 18-55mm focal length is equivalent to 28.8 to 88mm in 35mm terms, thus providing a versatile range of wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives. Its STM stepping motor benefits Canon's EOS Movie Servo AF feature for smooth and near-silent continuous autofocusing when recording video. An Optical Image Stabiliser minimises the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps to benefit working in low light conditions while optimised lens coatings ensure superb colour reproductions whilst limiting ghosting and flare. A seven-blade aperture design produces pleasing background blur.
